The Visage

I saw a face, you see

This face I saw today

It dwelt in yesterday

And they looked out to the world

Looked out, the eyes in the face

All is still there, yet sans grace

But no, no, it’s a lovely visage

No, it does not lack in charm at all

Something’s missing, though, behind a shawl

I knew this face well

A face from the past

The face, the outcast

The spark not in the eyes

The face I saw was sad

The soul not more green-clad

I was sad the face was sad

I think back of times of awe

I don’t know the face I saw

Don’t recognize what I behold

And I know not before my eyes

I see a smiley face that cries
