The Second Part

I – Donostia

Feet on the ground,
head up:
weave and unravel
the sweet and the salty
the drought and the drench.

If you focus,
the world vanishes.

II – The Cardinal

The voice of a man yelling in the desert:
“Make way for the Lord!”
But the desert is our road
of tables and chairs,
until we once again suffer a drought
and with it the distant voice…

III – The Distressed Pilgrim

Shut the door behind you
and take nothing along;
your soul’s heavy enough as it is.

Close your eyes
and open your heart;
your eyes are useless
in the dark.

Forget your home.
Forget your kin;
on your return, they won’t recognize you,
nor you them.

Don’t pray for anything but mercy,
don’t give anything but mercy.

Take nothing with you:
you’ll return heavy with
that which you didn’t ask for
but needed.
