Who we are
iExile is an independent literary platform at https://iexile.com, founded in 2007. We publish poetry, prose, satire, fragments, and books under the iExile Press imprint.
What data we collect
We collect only what is necessary to run the site and respond to you:
Contact form (WPForms): your name, email address, subject, and message. This data is stored in our WordPress database and used solely to respond to your inquiry.
Submissions (Contact Form 7): your name or pen name, email, genre, title, manuscript file (PDF), and optional notes. Submitted manuscripts are stored on our server and reviewed by editors. If your work is not selected, your submission data is deleted within 90 days.
Newsletter (MailPoet): if you subscribe, we store your email address to send occasional updates about new publications and site news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Spam protection
We use Akismet (by Automattic) to filter spam on our submission form. Akismet may process your IP address, user agent, referrer, and form content to determine whether a submission is spam. See Automattic’s privacy policy for details.
Our forms also use honeypot fields (hidden fields that only bots fill in). These do not collect any data from real visitors.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you log in to the site (editors and administrators only), WordPress sets a session cookie. The public-facing site sets no cookies for regular visitors beyond what is technically necessary for the site to function.
Third-party services
The site uses the following third-party services that may process limited data:
MailPoet for newsletter delivery. Akismet for spam filtering. Amazon for book purchase links (external; we do not receive purchase data). Our hosting provider stores standard server access logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) for security and performance. We do not share your personal data with anyone else.
Data retention
Contact form messages are retained until they are no longer needed for correspondence. Submission data for unselected work is deleted within 90 days. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To make a request, contact us at iexile.com/contact. We will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
