Who we are

iExile is an independent literary platform at https://iexile.com, founded in 2007. We publish poetry, prose, satire, fragments, and books under the iExile Press imprint.

What data we collect

We collect only what is necessary to run the site and respond to you:

Contact form (WPForms): your name, email address, subject, and message. The message is sent to the iExile editors by email and is used solely to respond to your inquiry. The site does not keep a copy in its database.

Submissions (submit.iexile.com): our submission portal is a separate site run by iExile. We collect what you enter there. Writing: your name or pen name, email address, the title, the genre, the manuscript you upload, whether the work was published before and where, whether it is a simultaneous submission, and any note you add. Translations also: the original author and language, your confirmation that you hold the translation rights, and the signed approval you upload. Art: your name, email address, the medium, the dimensions, the images you upload, any video links you give, and any note you add. With each submission we also record the page or link that brought you to the portal (the referring page and any campaign tags in the link), so we can see where writers and artists hear about us. Submitted work is stored on our server and reviewed by editors. If your work is not selected, your submission data is deleted within 90 days.

Newsletter and free e-book (MailPoet): if you subscribe to the newsletter or request the free e-book, we store your email address to send you the e-book and occasional updates about new publications and site news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Optional contributions (Stripe): if you choose to make a voluntary contribution, you are taken to a checkout page hosted by Stripe. Stripe collects and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy and shares the payment record with us; we never receive or store your card number. If you entered an email address first, we pass it to Stripe to pre-fill the checkout page.

Spam protection and security

The contact form uses a built-in anti-spam check that runs on our own server. Our submission portal uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots; Turnstile may process your IP address and browser information (see Cloudflare’s privacy policy). The e-book sign-up form uses Google reCAPTCHA v3, which sends your IP address and browser data to Google (see Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service); the reCAPTCHA script loads on the pages of this site.

To protect the editors’ login area, we use a login-protection plugin that records the IP address of failed login attempts.

Cookies

We do not use advertising cookies. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser (such as _ga) and receives your IP address, browser and device details, and the pages you view. Google reCAPTCHA may also set cookies. If you log in to the site (editors and administrators only), WordPress sets a session cookie. The submission portal may set a session cookie while you fill in the form and to remember the page that brought you there. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.

Third-party services

The site uses the following third-party services that may process limited data:

Google Analytics for visit statistics. Google Fonts: your browser loads typefaces directly from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address. Google reCAPTCHA and Cloudflare Turnstile for spam protection. MailPoet for newsletter and e-book delivery. Stripe for optional contributions. Amazon and Instagram for links to book purchases and our profile (external; we do not receive purchase data). Our hosting provider stores standard server access logs (IP address, browser, pages visited) for security and performance. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone other than these service providers.

Data retention

Contact form messages are kept in our email only until they are no longer needed for correspondence. Submission data for unselected work is deleted within 90 days. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for up to 30 days. Analytics data is kept for the period set in our Google Analytics account. Payment records are kept by Stripe under its own policies.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To make a request, contact us at iexile.com/contact. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
