I Stole a Piece of Tomorrow

I stole a piece of tomorrow
from your house and our belonging.

I fell for my longing,
promised or otherwise.

My mind stirred,
and the heart responded.

It’s uncertain, incredibly stupid, and urgh
all the lore now feels like a burden.

Though you wouldn’t be one to judge me—
you discovered and loved me, reminding me

that I owe you as much. That I cannot be
as conceited as my other third or half.

Only… I pried into your notebook
that guides me. Yours are the steady hands

that brought me the present
of being more than my mind.

Your handwriting turned me
witchy-vibey, obnoxiously cute, and aloof.

I stole a piece of tomorrow
so that yours could not be denied.

And
I
am burying it blindly

as
your
ring cuts straight through my heart.
