A DREAM

The itinerant sellers
of art posters
once more came

I went in search of their catalogue
displaying what they had

& looking through one –
posters of Central America
pictures by children
… only a few pages …

Pages upon pages
before
& after
of art supplies –
Multiple hues of
ocean depths
& depths of forests
A garden of brilliant yellow
& oranges
& reds
Oil clays
for sculpture, for animation

My mind modelled that clay
blending it
& giving life to it
watching it move
from place to place
from color to color

My eyes scanned down the page
for the price of my endeavors

My visions disappeared …
too expensive for a poor artist like me
like so many others
to bring life
visions of beauty & hope

animated visions
& started to walk away

Within a few despondent steps

I asked her
Are the clays so high?
How can poor artists afford such supplies?

Do you know
she asked me
where they come from?

Yes, from Germany

Do you know how much it costs to get things from there?
her voice raising its capitalist face

Don’t you care
I countered
allowing mine of the new person to arise
about making art, aesthetics available to the many
about employing people?

I looked at her
Above her pink gingham dress
no face peered at me
no head …
